Typically, you expect Flash Lite updates (or updates to pretty much any module that comes bundled with the phone, for that matter) to be delivered via firmware bump — a long, slow, frustrating process that can take weeks or months across all regions and product codes for a given Nokia model — but refreshingly, a new version of Flash Lite is now available to 5800 XpressMusic owners by a very different method. The rarely-used App Update mechanism in newer versions of S60 is being used to push out Flash Lite 3.1, which is said to “improve web browsing, ” add Flash 9 support, MP3 streaming, and add a host of other goodies — and perhaps most importantly, YouTube’s now more usable. Let’s hope the N97 has this out of the gate, eh?

If watching the N97 crawl out of its Espoo-designed packaging just isn’t enough for one day, how’s about this? An unlocked Samsung OmniaHD (or i8910, if we’re being proper) has found its way into the ever-loving hands of one mareskino, and he was kind enough to unbox the thing on video. Better still, the quality here is second to none, and we’d bet you’ll be drooling by the end of it. If you’re ready to prove us right / wrong, hop on past the break and mash play.
[Thanks, Curtis]

Well, if you’re the
proud owner of a
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic — which runs S60 5th edition, in case you don’t keep up with that jazz — you can now join the mobile pioneers using this free — at least for now,
for some — service. So, if you’ve never heard of Nokia Messaging, it is an email aggregator that will connect to 10 different webmail accounts and put the mail all in one place on your handset. Nokia Messaging support thousands of email providers, includes support for HTML, Windows Live Hotmail, and can be configured via the app on the phone or from the web. So far, so fantastic, and it is a grand thing when a beta app graduates to the real world. Congrats Nokia, and congrats to all you 5800 owners out there, follow the read to get at it.

Nothing spells happiness like a couple touchscreen launches, even if they’re only landing across the pond. The
LG GT505 (pictured left) is a pretty standard slate with some integrated GPS joy — courtesy of a 30-day WisePilot demo) to help you find your way — a 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and HSDPA connectivity. The GT505 is a social network-centric set with push updates for your favorite social sites, sparing you the clicks to get the updates manually. The GW520, like the GT5050, is also a social-network affair and packs a 3.2 megapixel camera, 2.8-inch display, HSDPA, and a sliding QWERTY keyboard. The GW520 also has a homescreen that features animated characters that represent the folks you talk to most with quick access to calls, mail, messaging and the like. Both sets launch in June for as of yet undisclosed prices with the GT505 slated to land on Orange and the GW520 arriving on “most UK networks”.

We always heard that where there is a will, there is a way. Said mantra has never been more exemplified than in the video past the break, as someone halfway across this great planet has seemingly procured what could be the very first shipping N97. Still, we’d like to point out a few things here: first, Nokia has yet to officially ship these things, so there’s at least a sliver of a chance that by mashing play, you’ll actually be watching a KIRF unboxing, and in turn, supporting terrorism. Also, we can’t understand a word the unboxer says, so again, he could be explaining just how elaborate of a fake it is, and we’d never know. Needless to say, you should definitely proceed at your own risk.
Update: Seems another fellow got one, and he’s got pictures to prove it.

What’s better than taking delivery of a shiny new N97 right about now? If you answered “reading through the phone’s support site,” you’re a sick puppy — but we’ll admit, we like the way you think. It’s for those most bizarre individuals that we happily point out that Nokia’s support pages for the Finnish superphone are now online, offering a full user’s manual download, specs, an accessory guide, and discussion forum all in one convenient location. Don’t knock yourself out, though — save some energy for when you actually get the phone, alright?

There are two sides to this coin, the way we see it. On the one hand, the handful of pictures that have just popped over on UMPC Fever demo many of the features we’re expecting to see in new iPhone hardware this summer — magnetic compass, autofocus camera, video recording capability, and a battery percentage meter in the status bar. On the other hand, having a good feel for those rumored features makes it that much easier to mock up ridiculously blurry shots of ‘em in action. The compass seems a little overdone, but then again, it’s not necessarily out of place considering the direction Apple has taken its voice recorder app in 3.0, so we’re going to play the cautiously optimistic diplomat here and say these could very well be real.

With only days to go before at least four or five Sprint stores begin selling Palm’s Pre, we’re already seeing at least one employee with some time on his hands give the smartphone a go. Moral of the story? Right about now would be an awesome time to know somebody who can get behind a Sprint counter without using an unlawful amount of force.

Koolu was showing a very, very early build of Cupcake running on OpenMoko’s FreeRunner way back at CES, and it seems that the Canadian company is now just a stone’s throw away from shipping. Beta versions of the EDGE- and WiFi-equipped handset are said to be just a few days’ away from being sent out to buyers, with a “full consumer” version being readied for later in the summer. How OpenMoko’s slowdown factors into this is unclear, but seeing how the FreeRunner’s design and components have been open sourced, we imagine there’s nothing stopping from Koolu (or anyone else) from firing up their own production run should the need arise.

It’s not every day that we use “Ericsson,” “sexy,” and “3G router” all in the same sentence, so you can understand our excitement upon learning everything there is to know about the company’s new W30 and W35 models. Calling it “3G” might be an understatement, actually — these bad boys will do a purely theoretical 7.2Mbps down and 2.0Mbps up on three hair-raising HSPA bands in addition to quadband EDGE. Both models offer 802.11b / g and four Ethernet ports for routing that high-speed WWAN data however you see fit, and the W35 ups the ante by throwing two RJ11 ports on board for VoIP connectivity. The W35 looks to be shipping in early June, so clear a nice little feng shui spot on your kitchen counter where it can sit, get friendly compliments from the neighbors, and enhance your calm.
