So much for the “last stand,” huh? After getting pictured way back in August of last year, Motorola has quietly let CES, Mobile World Congress and (almost) CTIA slip by with nary a peep on why this thing has yet to ship. We’d initially heard that Q4 2008 was the window, and then Q1 2009; just last week, we heard that Moto could be shooting out ten new smartphones in the latter half of this year, but evidently this one won’t be included. According to the always questionable DigiTimes, Motorola has inexplicably “canceled the planned launch of the Alexander handset and also reduced the number of markets in which it will sell its A3100 smartphone,” though it gave no reason as to why. Is it sad that we’re not at all saddened? Onward and upward, we say.

Last year, we were told by a source very close — nay, very very close — to Motorola that the Invisio Q7 design that the company had bought from Nextlink (which has since renamed itself Invisio, ironically) would see release by summer of 2008. Well, we’re into spring of 2009 at this point and there’s no sign of it. We’d asked for an official update late last year and were given a “no comment” sort of response, and since then, we haven’t seen any teasers or announcements that would indicate this thing is close to release. Noise reduction is getting pretty damned good in modern Bluetooth headsets, but even the best models are rendered unusable in circumstances where true bone conduction would shine — high winds, for example — so we’re anxiously awaiting this thing’s release. Motorola, what say you — is this tech dead for some reason you haven’t shared with the world? Was your pricey purchase a bust?

Sure, the 120 million mark of the RAZR V3 might be a little hard to grasp at, but with innovative features like shaving people’s faces, we could really see this Cool758 “razor phone” breaking into the double digits. Just pop the cap off the bottom and you’ve got a fully functional shaving implement, perfect for rubbing across your chin repeatedly in a vain hope that it’ll knock off a few bristles before that very important meeting you’re late and ill-prepared for. If shaving isn’t your thing, there’s always its dual-sim capability, a touchscreen, and a 2 megapixel camera to fall back on. No word on price or availability.

The Motorola VE240 is expected to be available on Cricket Wireless for US$89.99 after a $30 instant rebate for Cricket Wireless. MetroPCS pricing information has not been provided yet.

Motorola will complete any devices on those two platforms that it has already committed to building, but moving forward will rely on Windows Mobile and Google’s Android for its mid-tier and high-end devices in an effort to reduce its R&D costs. It will use its P2K platform or ODM solutions for the low and very-low end markets.

Jha said that Windows Mobile and Android will be used for both consumer and enterprise devices, and that the company’s first Android powered device will not come to market until the holiday shopping season in 2009, a year from now.

Motorola also said that it is no longer expecting to spin off the Mobile Devices wing of Motorola in Q3 of 2009, as it had indicated earlier. It will, instead, take longer. The company would like to return to profitability first, considering the current economic climate.

Other features the new V9x shares with the original includes an HTML web browser, a 2 megapixel camera with video capture, dual QVGA resolution displays, and support for AT&T’s 3G network. The Motorola RAZR2 V9x is available now for $199.99, after a two year service agreement and rebates.

The novelty is equipped with 2,2 inch display, 2 Mp inbuilt camera and function of video recording.  Among other communication abilities we would like to notice Bluetooth module and support of text, multimedia and IM messaging.

There is also a microSD slot which accepts cards up to 8 Gb capacity, mobile web-browser and access to the music service of Verizon Wireless – V CAST Music with Rhapsody, which has more than 5 mln songs in their catalogue.

If one signs a two year contract with operator the device will cost only USD 70.

Mobile professionals wanting the power of a smartphone with the ease of a flip-phone design are in luck as T-Mobile is now selling the first clamshell BlackBerry.

The flip phone is noticeably larger than clamshell phones like Motorola Razr, but reviews say it feels light in the hand. Like the BlackBerry Pearl, the Flip has a SureType QWERTY keyboard for composing e-mails and texts and a trackball for navigation.

The smartphone sports an external display that lets users preview incoming calls, e-mails, texts, and photos without opening up the phone. On the inside, there’s a 2.6-inch screen with a 240-by-320 resolution that the company said has crisp detail and contrast.

The Flip is still a BlackBerry, so it will have integrated access for push corporate e-mail, and it works with Microsoft  Exchange, IBM Lotus, Novell, Web-based e-mails, and more. Flip users will be able to view and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on the handset with the preloaded DataViz Documents To Go software.

Some users may be turned off by the lack of 3G connection, but the Flip does have EDGE network support as well as built-in Wi-Fi. The smartphone will have Bluetooth version 2.0 support for headset pairing, stereo Bluetooth, and more.

For multimedia, the Flip can play multiple audio and video codec’s, and users can sync their DRM-free iTunes songs with the BlackBerry Media Sync application. RIM ’s clamshell smartphone also has a 2-megapixel camera that can be used to record videos.

The MOTO Q 11 features a 3 megapixel fixed-focus camera and a microSDHC(INFO) card slot for up to 32GB of storage expansion room. Like the Q9, the Q11 sports a 2.4″, 262k color QVGA resolution display and offers GPS functionality. It even comes equipped with support for the latest Bluetooth 2.1 standard as well as WiFi.

With its standard 1170mAh battery installed, the Q11 measures 117mm x 64mm x 11.7mm (4.6″ x 2.5″ x .46″) in size and weighs a respectably light 115g (4.1oz). The battery should last for up to 450 minutes of talk time or 8 days of standby time. The battery can be recharged through the Q11’s standard micro-USB connector.

The Motorola Q11 is expected to be available for purchase in December of 2008. No pricing or specific market availability information has been provided at this time.
