AT&T’s upcoming handsets include BlackBerry 9700, Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60

This “pre-launch” list of upcoming AT&T phones leaked out today, and it’s pretty interesting — in addition to the BlackBerry 9700, it also features the illusory Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60, which finally looks like it’ll be coming to the US just a short 18 months after first being announced. Other notables include the HTC Tilt 2 and something called the HTC Pure, which Boy Genuis Report says may be a variant of the Snap. No Android or webOS on this list, sadly, but hey — the nüvifone is coming. Can you feel the excitement?

Leaked Sprint WiMAX roadmap names new cities for 2009 rollout

Well, what do we have here? One of our readers sent us a screenshot from Sprint’s Sales Portal that included the above roadmap for its WiMAX rollout this year. A number of the yet-to-be-launched cities we’ve already heard about — Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Charlotte — but to the best of our knowledge, the rest of them are brand new entries. Additionally, Baltimore residents can look forward to some sort of coverage update in the fourth quarter. We’d be lying if we said we weren’t jealous that Salem (population 3,000) and Milledgeville (population 19,000) are getting the wireless network before most of us on staff, but the service has to start somewhere, right? No indication here of 2010 plans, but last we heard that included Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

BlackBerry Storm 2 dummy unit appears in Verizon systems

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Looks like RIM and Verizon are getting things in place for the Storm 2 — this picture posted on CrackBerry purportedly shows an entry for retail mockup units of RIM touchscreen sequel in Verizon’s inventory system that seems to confirm the rumored 9550 model number is the real deal. Considering how leaky RIM’s been lately this doesn’t surprise us any too much, but we’re still waiting to see a Storm 2 that actually functions before we say an actual launch is imminent.

Hold the phone: T-Mobile G1 v2 to really be the Samsung Bigfoot?

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Well well — it looks like whatever Android handset Motorola’s cooking up might not be the T-Mobile G1 v2 after all. Mobile-review just published this shot of a Samsung Bigfoot with a slider QWERTY keyboard, and we’ve got to say, it looks a hell of a lot more like the device in that leaked T-Mobile roadmap than that rendered Moto unit. (It also looks a lot like the Samsung Beat DJ, but that’s neither here nor there.) Not only that, but there’s also an early spec sheet and another image of a candybar set called the Spica — apart from the slider, Bigfoot and Spica are nearly identical lower-end versions of the I7500, with three-inch screens, three megapixel cameras, and Android 2.0 “Donut” preloaded. That certainly throws a monkey wrench into what we had thought was a neatly-tied little bow, but we’ve got to say we’re stoked to see so many Android sets appearing all at once. Now if someone could just tell us when and where these would ship, we’d be all set. Spec sheet after the break.
