Going off mere clues, hypotheses and shreds of evidence, we’ve been trying to wrap our brains around the InstinctQ for a while now — and finally we’ve got a picture that firms everything up: it’s definitely an Android-powered landscape QWERTY slider for Sprint. We know the Hero’s in the pipeline, too, so between these two, Sprint could be poised to catch up to T-Mobile in a big, big way (as far as Android goes, anyhow) this fall. We think we’re digging the touch-sensitive Home, Menu, and Back buttons, and the expansive keyboard looks plenty usable. The screen isn’t looking quite as vibrant as its autobahn-driving European cousin, the Galaxy — but we’ll wait on passing final judgment until it’s in our hands, of course. Any chance that’s happening soon?
[Thanks, Justin]

We knew the Gravity 2 was coming, but when it was announced, T-Mobile stayed coy about pricing and availability beyond saying “August.” Turns out that “August” means today, because a quick visit to the carrier’s website now lets you get in on the text-heavy landscape slider for a mere $29.99 on contract after rebate in your choice of “Metallic Pumpkin” or the arguably more sophisticated “Berry Mauve.” Don’t expect the world — the camera’s just 2 megapixels and the screen is going to cause frustration, eyestrain, injury, and / or death if you try to browse actual websites — but at least you’ve got GPS, AWS 3G, and some of the more spacious texting you’ll find at this price point. Just don’t drop it, because you’ll learn how it gets its name real quick.

If you’re looking for a Palm Pre that’s made by Samsung, not running webOS, and AT&T branded… well, bless your heart, because today’s your lucky day. Craigslist (of all places) has unveiled the first shots of what’s said to be the Sammy a797, a full-touch feature phone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard — a form factor arguably popularized by Palm’s baby. We don’t know a blasted thing about this phone other than what you see here, but we do know that the lucky individual that currently has it is pawning it for a bargain-basement price of $115… which is probably a good deal less than AT&T will sell it for, whenever it launches. Totally legit, right?

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that leaked lineup documents suggest Rogers has an eye on Nokia’s Surge; Rogers has a pretty good relationship with Nokia, after all, and the Surge is the kind of device that pretty much any text-savvy carrier with an established rapport with Nokia would be looking into. What might be more of a surprise is that they’ll apparently be launching it as the 6790 Surge — Nokia’s global designation for the device — as opposed to the simpler “Surge” preferred by AT&T. After AT&T’s move we’d taken 6790 as more of a European branding, but hey, props to Rogers for keeping it real and letting Nokia roll with its traditional scheme. No word on availability yet, but we’ll allegedly be looking at CAD $89.99 (about $83) on a new three-year agreement when it finally does launch.

Say you’ve got a Nokia E71. Say, further, that you fully intend to upgrade to the E72 the moment it’s available (we can’t say we blame you). If you’d like to know more about the phone by the time it arrives on your doorstep than most people do in the lifetimes of their devices, we might recommend grabbing pork sandwich, a 64-ounce Coke, and your favorite blankie and curling up with mobile-review’s epic “first look.” Spec-wise, the new model is an outright slam dunk over the one it replaces, and it seems that mobile-review generally agrees — sticking points were few and far between though he seems ambivalent on the optical d-pad, and it’s also worth noting that the keyboard is now based on the E63’s design rather than the E71’s. Even if you don’t want to read through the somewhat roughly-translated text, it’s hard to argue with mobile-review’s great photography — and it’s not like you’re seeing an E72 in the flesh today, so you may as well have a look, eh?

We love the Earth, and apparently so do Sprint and Samsung. The two companies have just introduced the Reclaim, a super-eco cellphone made from 80 percent recycled materials. The device — a stout, sliding, QWERTY message-friendly model — is constructed from “bio-plastic” materials made from corn, is free of PVC, and mostly free of BFR (brominated flame retardants)… which are apparently pretty bad. The phone also has a 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, can accept microSD cards (we assume) up to 32GB, and has Sprint Navigation onboard. The packaging will be eco-friendly as well, as it’s constructed from 70 percent recycled materials and printed with soy-based ink. The carrier will be selling the Reclaim in “Earth Green” or “Ocean Blue” come August 16th for $50 (after a $30 instant rebate and $50 mail-in rebate) with a two-year contract. Additionally, $2 of that profit will be funneled to the Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program. Finally, a phone that goes with your Prius.

If you thought that “Chianti” was an odd name for a Samsung phone on Sprint… well, the new name isn’t really any less odd. PhoneArena appears to have obtained shots of the upcoming M560 Reclaim, which seems to be a wide portrait QWERTY slider in the same vein as the Propel (among others). It’s got a landscape QVGA display, 2 megapixel cam, and GPS — but as the name sorta implies, the emphasis here is going to be on environmental friendliness, which could mean that it’s using the same corn-based shell as the E200 Eco. Tasty! It’s been spotted both in blue and green, though it’s unknown if those will be the actual launch colors, how much it’ll run, or when we might have the pleasure.

The word “Rogue” conjures images of awesome X-Men characters, small Nissan SUVs, and badasses who don’t take crap from nobody — but QWERTY sliders on Verizon? We’ll admit, we didn’t see that one coming. The would-be Glyde replacement is apparently lined up for a release date around the 15th of August, and we’re seeing it now for the first time in pristine press shots following some in-the-wild action early in the month. We can tell already that it’s going to be a better-looking phone than its predecessor, and the word on the street is that it works as good as it looks; if anything, it’s a shame they didn’t just go ahead and slap WinMo on here and call it an Omnia Pro. Can’t win ‘em all, we suppose.

On the lookout for the
Motorola / Android / Verizon trifecta, we dug up some handset renders over at motofan.ru that seem to fit the bill quite well, thank you. According to the site, “Sholes” is a 3.7-inch (480 x 854) touchscreen device that will make its debut in the U.S. in October, featuring: 512MB storage, 256MB RAM, support for microSD / microSDHC up to 16 GB (an 8GB microSD ships with the phone), a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, GPS, and the expected connectivity (USB, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi), audio, and video formats. And if the translation wasn’t hopelessly garbled, the source is also saying that this bad boy will support both CDMA and EVDO Rev A . No word on a price yet, but if this phone does make it to the realm of the real it’ll be nice to see a Moto / Android device that doesn’t look like it belongs in the hands of a tweenage girl (yeah, we said it,
Morrison). See for yourself after the break.

Here’s some of the other stuff that happened in the wide world of mobile for Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009:
- For some reason known only to Samsung, it seems the S9110 watchphone won’t be coming to the UK any time soon. Of course, if you’ve got unlocked GSM 900 / 1800 units floating around France this month, it should be a simple matter to get ‘em anywhere in Europe.
- LG’s second quarter report revealed an astounding 32 percent jump in phone shipments quarter-over-quarter, setting an all-time best 29.82 million units. The company specifically calls out the next Black Label phone — presumably the BL40 — as one of the phones it’s pinning its hopes and dreams on toward the end of the year. [Via mocoNews]
- iPhones can now be used to generate RSA SecurID tokens, which should make a great many enterprise iPhone users happier than pigs in poo.
- Google Maps 3.2 has been released for Windows Mobile and S60. The big feature here is layered data, meaning you can add and remove different bits of information (Latitude, traffic, and so on) one layer at a time.
- A picture atop Samsung USA’s mobile site suggests a new QWERTY slider is destined for MetroPCS. It’s labeled Messager, but looks nothing like the Messager we’re acquainted with — instead, it looks suspiciously like Bell’s Vice. [Via Phone Scoop]
